Sean John Unforgivable Bottle Design Infringing on Tom Patti Glass Sculpture

Who knew a plastic packaging insert could cause national headlines? According to the SeanJohnUnforgivable.com team, when you are talking about a plastic packaging made by Sean John, maybe the world needs to know. Sean John Unforgivable Men cologne was recently pushed into court as glass artist "Tom Patti" was told that his glass sculpture design was copied by a magazine. It seems the mens Unforgivable cologne box was too similar to Patti's sculpture and he thinks the design is unforgivable.

"Everywhere I went, people started congratulating me on the success of my fragrance container. I didn't know what they were talking about. Eventually, I realized that Combs had replicated my work" says Tom Patti on the lawsuit.

The accusations were ignited by Urban Glass Quarterly magazine of Ft Greene, Brooklyn. The zine first approached Patti with the idea the bottle was too similar in design to his work. Going further, the magazine even published an article making their belief public. Some think the attempt to discredit Diddy's amazing Sean John Unforgivable fragrance were fueled by outside sources.

"Sean John Unforgivable is the best fragrance in the world. Women love it on men and men love the smooth smell. I do not think this suit will prove true. If anything happens, I'm sure with Diddy's creativity, the new 2.5 oz and 4.2 oz Unforgivable bottles will be even better," says C.KhiD, a budding Hip Hop music sensation.

Patti's design was originally made in 1981. Sean John Unforgivable was launched in 2006. The obvious gap in time realizes the fact their can be an issue. However, Patti's design can also be said to look inspired by log cabins technically. The designer behind the Unforgivable mens cologne holder is one to question. Their inspirations will need to be documented for court.

Sean Combs' lawyers aim to prove that the mag planted the idea for the Sean John Unforgivable suit in the artist's mind. Therefore not even being deemed reasonable in court since he could not verify it himself.

"The article appears to have been conceived entirely by the Glass Quarterly parties, who approached [Patti] . . . with a suggestion that [Diddy's] fragrance package copied Tom Patti's works," they wrote in court papers.

Now they want the magazine to hand over all of the notes journalist Frida Hognabba took for her 2008 article.

Calls to Combs, the magazine and Combs' lawyer were not immediately returned.

The artist, Tom Patti, is suing Combs for copyright infringement over the design of Sean John's Unforgivable cologne, which Patti claims looks a lot like a 1981 sculpture of his that was valued at $40,000 in 2006 when it was displayed at the Heller Gallery in Chelsea.
