Neon Signs in Saginaw, Michigan are not the most uncommon thing. However most of them are small
and basic, maybe the typical open neon signs at most stores and businesses. Yesterday however,
Saginaw's historic Castle museum brought back the city's greatest neon artwork from the last
century, "the leaky faucet."
"Neon Signs like this are so much more creative and attractive. An era of artists probably found
great fun in these creations and the public generally appreciated it. This is why The Leaky Faucet
sign is still being lit up today," spoke sketch and multimedia artist Rodrick Rainey.
"The Leaky Faucet" is a neon sign by Brenske Plumbing Heating & Supply Company. Once
located at 531 W. Genesee in Saginaw, the shop was bulldozed to make way for a Rite Aide pharmacy.
It marked the end of a 'jazzy' neon signs era to some local residents.
Monday, June 14th neon signs were brought back to life. The Leaky Fauce was posted in a parking
lot between the cross streets Court and Hamilton. Within a short time it was 'leaking' again,
with 5 of 6 neon water droplets properly lighting.
From a distance the Leaky Faucet in Saginaw looks like water droplets leaking from a bathroom
faucet. Giving a proper visual to the Brenske Plumbing company, the neon sign helped keep
the shop in business through 1997.
